» Program Tips

- DVD PixPlay 1: Enhance your Title Pages with Reveal and Animation Effects

One of the nice additions in v6 is that ability to add pizazz to your title pages and photos with Reveal Effects.  There are two types of effects available; Animation effects move text and clip-art onto the frame, whereas Reveal effects slowly expose text and clip-art using a transition effect, such as a horizontal wipe.

To animate a frame with a reveal effect:

1. Select a title page or photo in your slideshow
2. Click Frame > Add/Edit Text and Clip Art
3. On the bottom left click the "Use Reveal Effect" option
4. Click "Settings"
5. Choose which objects to reveal.  With sliding text effects you specify only the objects that will move, whereas with reveal effects you choose the visibility of objects at the start and end of the display (as you may want objects that disappear at the end of the frame).
6. Click OK

- DVD PixPlay 2: Rip Tracks directly from a Music CD

The second addition which will address about 1,000 requests a year is the ability to rip a track from your favorite music CD:

1. Insert a music CD into your CD/DVD drive
2. Select Edit > Slideshow Properties
3. Choose the "Music" tab
4. Click "Add CD Music"
5. Select a track
6. Click OK

- MailList King: Subscribe Acknowledgements vs. Welcome Messages

MLK offers two acknowledgment messages for users subscribing to your mailing list.  So what is the difference?

Subscribe Acknowledgements are ALWAYS sent out when a user attempts to join your mailing list and may include the "RESULT" field which is filled with a summary indicating whether the user was successfully subscribed or not.  They allow a user to confirm that their subscription took effect (or, alternatively, discover that they have been surreptitiously or erroneously subscribed by another user).

Welcome Messages are ONLY sent when a user successfully joins a mailing list group (for the first time) and you need to specify a welcome message for EACH group for which you want one sent.  They are useful for information that is only relevant to new members of particular groups, for example, a special offer for which they can only qualify once.

- Smart Pix/MegaView: Emailing your Photos

If you frequently e-mail photos then you may want to do it from within Smart Pix/MegaView as it offers features to automatically resize and convert them so that they are faster to send and receive.

To enable this functionality go into Tools > Options, Other tab and specify your preferred E-mail settings.  It is recommended that set the option to always send in JPEG format, generally no larger than screen size (assuming the images are not intended for printing).

Now you can select images and click File > E-mail File and your images will be automatically converted and sent.

Note: This is only possible if you have email software installed on your computer

- Amaze: Displaying IPTC descriptions over your Photos

When you specify a description for your images in many applications (such as Picasa, Smart Pix Manager and Photoshop) the data is embedded into the image file itself allowing you to use it in other applications.  With Amaze you can automatically display this description over the photo as it is shown:

1.  In the Amaze folder under your Start menu choose the "Configure Amaze"
2.  Click the Settings tab
3.  In the Slideshow Captions box choose the "Description" option
4. Click OK
