Dear Xequte Software User,

Well we have so much news to report that I'm going to keep my usual waffle to a minimum.  The main thing of course is our new DVD PixPlay release.  Now I know this one is going to be popular with you guys because it adds a feature that we get asked for at least once a day and twice on weekends: Multiple slideshows with DVD menus!

As is usually the case with these things, technically it was all very straightforward, the hard bit was adding the feature in a way that would not make the software confusing, overwhelming or just plain ugly.  Fortunately - if our beta reports are anything to go by - PixPlay users should find no difficulty with the new release at all.

And just for fun we've snuck in a little easter egg.  A special prize to anyone who finds it :-)

If you need any clues, drop us a line on our discussion forum: www.xequte.com/userforum/

Regards

* MailList King V7.12 Released

MailList King allows you to manage and communicate with a mailing list from your own computer.

V7.12 has been released to address the question:

"Why is my message displaying as gibberish?"

You may have read on our forum about an issue in a recent Microsoft Exchange update that can cause a message to display the wrong character set:

http://www.xequte.com/userforum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2752

This occurs if you do not explicitly specify a character encoding option for your message (e.g. for an English messages you haven't specified your character set as "Western European").  V7.12 adds a new "Automatic" encoding option which ensures that a character set is always specified for your messages and thus avoid the Exchange issue.

To enable this option click the Edit button on the Message Sending Toolbar then the "Automatic" option.

* Program Tips

- DVD PixPlay: Uploading a Slideshow to YouTube

A popular way to share slideshows with friends and family is the video sharing web site, YouTube.  DVD PixPlay V4 allows you to save your slideshows in a YouTube compatible format for uploading:

1. Run DVD PixPlay and open your project

2. Select File>Burn Slideshow Disk

3. Choose the "YouTube" format option and click Next

4. Select the option to save to a file and specify a filename

Once generation completes:

5. Go to the YouTube web site: www.youtube.com

6. Click the Sign Up option and then follow the steps to become a member

7. Upload your video file from Step 3.

Note: YouTube does not allow video files larger than 100 MB or longer than 10 minutes

- DVD PixPlay - Professional: Burning a PowerPoint Presentation to DVD

DVD PixPlay - Professional Edition - allows you to import PowerPoint presentations so that you can burn them to DVD (for native playback on DVD players).

The steps are as follows:

  1. Run DVD PixPlay
  2. Select File>Open, browse to your PPT file and click OK
  3. Edit the project further if desired (e.g. add background music and transitions)
  4. Click "Burn Disk"

Note: DVD PixPlay will not import transitions, background music, animations or other native PowerPoint features.

- MailList King: When a user reports getting multiple copies of a message

If you run a mailing list (such as with MailList King) you will occasionally hear from list members who report that they have received multiple copies of a mailer.

As MailList King always maintains a unique list of sending recipients, the problem is inevitably due to the user having multiple aliases or forwarding addresses.

If the user is unaware of such an alias then you will need to ask them to inspect the header of the message to see which address was used to reach them. Instructions for this are at:

http://www.xequte.com/mailinglist/getaddress.html

- Smart Pix/MegaView: Shrink to Fit vs. Stretch to Fit

New users are often confused by the two display options; "Shrink to Fit" and "Stretch to Fit" available under the view menu.

These options determine how images that are larger or smaller than the preview area should be displayed:

  • Shrink to Fit only applies to images that are larger than the preview window. If enabled, it reduces the display size of the image so that it fits within the preview window.

  • Stretch to Fit only applies to images that are smaller than the preview window. If enabled, it enlarges the display size of the image to the dimensions of the preview window.
